Violin and Piano Concert
7.30pm St John’s Church £8(£6)
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the death of the composer Sir Arnold Bax, and this concert provides a rare opportunity to hear one of his greatest chamber works, the 2nd Violin Sonata, a mighty work heard all too infrequently on the concert stage. Tonight it is performed by the Russian violinist Yuri Kalnits and the composer’s own great-grandson, Jeremy Limb, who also plays some of Bax’s shorter solo piano works, Bax himself having been a pianist of some repute. The concert will include French impressionist works and closes with Ravel’s great homage to the art of the gypsy violinist, Tzigane.

The River by Charles Mander
7.30pm Merlin Theatre £6(£5)
The Somerset Fellowship of Drama, comprising twelve actors drawn from all over Somerset, including several from the Frome area, perform this trilogy of delightful comedies written by the late Charles Mander, who lived and worked near Bridgwater. He wrote them separately in the early '80s but always dreamed that all three - The River, Monmouth and Sparrows - would one day be presented as a full evening’s entertainment, linked as they are by the River Parrett and by their common theme of pollution versus employment versus the environment. The Fellowship have now taken up the challenge as this year’s touring County Production.

Singalong with My Fair Lady
7.30pm Memorial Theatre £5(£4) (booking essential)
This is the event for all those who love musicals, classic film, belting out a good tune, or even just wearing fancy dress. The Memorial Theatre is blending its cinematic past and theatrical present by screening the classic 1964 musical My Fair Lady on a huge screen. The audience is invited to become part of the spectacle and we hope that the roar of the grease paint and smell of the crowd will entice a number of the stars from Frome Operatic Society’s own show of 2002 to don their frocks and lead the singing. So, dress up as your favourite character, prepare to ‘dance all night’ and sing your heart out to one of the best-loved musical films of all time.
Presented by FilmFrome in association with Pyjama Pictures.
